Kerala backwaters are the most romantic and exotic places in the earth to spend your time with your soulmate.

You can turn your Kerala honeymoon into something magical by spending some time by exploring this enchanting water world. This is the reason most of the newlyweds land at this little state for their honeymoon.

There are various types of Kerala backwater honeymoon tours available with the Kerala Holidays Ltd.

Alappuzha the Venice of the East, Kollam, Kumarakom or Kochi are the best places to have a houseboat cruise. Your tour operator could either arrange a day cruise or an overnight stay in one of the many houseboats that are available.

These houseboats are the modern avatar of Kerala's traditional 'kettuvallams'. They were earlier used by people who live around the backwaters to transport foodgrains and other goods to markets.

These boats are constructed using the traditional techniques of boat building by the local carpenters.

Traditionally only coir ropes are used to tie the whole thing together and a single nail will not be used in the construction of the houseboats. A traditional houseboat is 100 feet long and could carry up to 30 tonnes of weight.

Different types of houseboats are available and most of them are fully furnished with all most all the modern amenities and are available as single room, double room, triple rooms (some have a number of rooms for the large families) with attached bathrooms and bio-toilets, a kitchen and a living room. As the cruise proceeds, you could watch the surroundings from your deck balcony.

Many double deck houseboats are also available in Alappuzha and Kumarakom.

You and your partner could enjoy the cruise in one of these kettuvallams or houseboats. It is a way of sightseeing without any physical stress. It will be a magical memory for both of you as the houseboat takes you through the backwater labyrinth that consists of lagoons, lakes, rivers, rivulets and canals, comprising of the Kuttanad region.

We are sure that the cruise would really make you and your partner get fascinated by the natural wonder called Kerala.

You could watch the sunset and the sunrise while you are sipping a hot cup of tea or enjoying coconut water - the natural health drink at the deck of the houseboat.

You could visit the little hamlets that are shaded by large coconut groves and lush paddy fields and watch the village lifestyle. Some of these houseboats would halt at the canal side fish markets and they may sometimes allow you to select the fish you want for the lunch.

The chef at the houseboat will prepare the authentic Kerala cuisine that comprises of seafood, meat and vegetable dishes. Vegetarian, continental, South Indian or North Indian food are also served according to the needs of the guests

For honeymooners they also arrange special candle light dinner and flower arrangements.

If you are spending the night at the houseboat then you should know that the boat would anchor for the night around 6 pm. As they prepare your dinner you could explore the nearby island villages.
