Bekal

The historically important beach town is one of the quietest and picturesque places in Kerala to enjoy a romantic honeymoon.  Bekal has located about 16 km away from the town of Kasargod district of Kerala.

The pristine shallow beach and the majestic heritage Bekal fort that overlooks the sea are the major attractions of this sleepy town. This is a perfect place to have a quiet and peaceful vacation.

You won't usually find the name Bekal on the list of most famous honeymoon places in Kerala. It is a place that is slightly off the track. It is not crowded like many other tourist places in Kerala, and that makes it a perfect place that gives you enough time to spend some quality time with your partner.

The romantic and secluded beach allows you to enjoy the pristine beauty of the sea and the nearby fort. You can take a leisurely swim in the Arabian Sea enjoying the calm breeze, watch the sunset and listen to the rhythmic music of the waves crashing against the fort walls and that will be a really romantic experience.

The nearby Bekal Fort, largest in Kerala, which was built in 1650 is an international tourist spot. The fort also has an important position in the history of Kerala. The fort has seen the rise and fall of many dynasties, including the Nayaks and the Mysore Sultans.

During the British rule, the fort served as the headquarters of the Bekal Taluk. The observation tower that looms over the Arabian Sea was added to the fort by Tipu Sultan, it offers the visitors a scenic view of the coastline and the horizon. There are many underground tunnels in the fort which you could explore.

The fort also has been part of many movies, music videos, including the famous song 'Uyire' from the Tamil movie 'Bombay'.

Another specialty of the famous beach is that the whole place is illuminated with lights during the evening hours and it adds to the surreal feel of the beautiful beach.

While you are in Bekal don't forget to visit the little but alluring hill station Ranipuram. It is considered as the Ooty of Kasargod. It offers spectacular views of the low lying areas and is also a great place to watch birds and the surrounding forest area houses a wide variety of flora and fauna.
